Dallas Market - Cash & Carry

This weekend Jason and I went down to the Dallas World Trade Center for the Home and Gift Show, they have many shows through out the year but this one allows for the Cash & Carry. Cash & Carry is different b/c it lets boutiques do personal shopping and not have to wait for merchandise through ordering. We did really well and it helped us get a clear vision of Heather Hill’s next step!

After being lost and walking the buildings for hours a nice man called this bus to drop me off at Cash & Carry. Yes I was the sole rider-lol!

Holiday House - Little Rock

This week was my big show of the season, I have been making inventory for it since the summer. I was really stressed out b/c I had to pull the trailer, learn how to hitch and unhitch it and unload but everything worked out. My friend Leslie came down with me and we had some adventures. We survived “murder alley” every day and had record sales for the 4 days.

The line to pack up that night was 3 hrs. long so I pulled to the front of the hotel and used the elevator to load up. It took us about 11 trips but we got it done by midnight. Got back to the hotel and had me a cup of noodles (which is practically a lumpy drink) .

While at the Summer Solstice Festival the owner of My Sweet Pineapple (a boutique in Santa Barabara) came by and asked if she could carry some of my things in her shop. I was thrilled b/c her store was so unique and eclectic...a perfect match! She had even put some of the sets in the store window :).

I just left to go around the corner to shoot my new line with Main St. Studios. I arrived and one of the moms said there is a car through the window by your store. She thought that it didn't do any damage to my window but I went down to check on my neighbors. Sure enough the car had gone through the window but everyone was in the back so noone was hurt. It was a younger girl driving and her breaks went out.

The store Books on Broadway has seen Elise in action (at their store downtown). The owner was getting to redo her commercial for the movies and they needed a expressive kid. She ran over to my shop and asked if Elise would be interesed. They filmed it in town while dressed in her Heather Hill dress, she did a fab job! Ask her what the best part was, she'll tell you she got paid :)!

Sitting in my house (snowed in from record snowfall this week) I get an email, I read it and then I read it to my husband. It's attentioned to the PR dept. of Heather Hill, they would like to include my product in gift bags to the nominees of the Academy Awards (40 of the items would be given to the nominees and 10 to the media). Only thing is they need it in about 10 days! Hmmm, I may not be able to pull this off (make 50 items and put together a media kit) but my PR dept. will call them and ask if perhaps I can be included in the gift bags for the Emmy's or Celeb New Mom gifts (they provide them to all the shows)... I'll keep you all posted!

We have seen the most snow ever since moving to Arkansas! Coming from CA this is quite a change...my kids have been out of school from Tues - Fri. and the store has been closed. But today my husband drove me to the shop in our "beast" diesel camper truck and I got my online orders filled and some sewing done. Yes, that is what was donated to my store to avoid a landfill! It was forklifted into my trailer and my husband and girls wheelbarrowed it into the shop.

Ah-mazing
This coat is stunning! Our daughter is very petite so I was worried that she would be lost in such a bold fabric, but she is not. The cut of the coat and generous sleeve length will allow her to wear it this season and next year. She wore it for the first time Sunday and everyone we saw stopped us to ask about the coat. If you are remotely thinking about buying this coat--do it! You won't be sorry.

Our Crazy Two Show Weekend!

This weekend was a first for me - two shows booked on the same weekend. We knew it was coming and my husband told me not worry about it - everything would work out (so if he wasn't freaking then I reassured myself not to)! We started out Thurs. night and set up in Tulsa, spent the night there and worked the show until my friends came down and finished working it for me Fri. & Sat. So Fri. we went up to Springdale and set up for the show that night. Worked that and returned with help on Sat. Tore down that set up on Sat. night and returned to Tulsa Sun. to finish that show and tear down. All in all we did fairly well, and we didn't even misplace a kid!

Praire Grove Clothesline Fair

This Labor Day weekend we headed out to the Clothesline Fair in Praire Grove. Thank you all who came out and supported us, it was our best show to date! I loved talking with you all and thanks for all the encouraging words about Heather Hill.
I had my oldest daughter beg me to come so she was with me Sun. & Mon. She did a great job and learned that register (thank you customers for your patience with her :)).

they fall asleep on your cutting tables! The girls had a sleepover and noone really slept for very long (they were all up and in the pool by 7am).
So while at work, Elise took the sofa in the back and Madison decided to make a bed on my cutting table...this is how I found her! They slept here for a good 2hrs.

Today we celebrated Elise's 7th birthday! We had our annual pan"cake" breakfast, opened presents, headed out to church, Chinese food lunch, aquatic center, impromptu b-day party and smores on the fire pit before bed... Great fun day...and tomorrow it's my husbands :)

Dancing Flower Girls

We attended a wedding yesterday where the bride wanted a bunch of flower girls dancing up and down the isles - which by the way turned out to be so cute, they were dancing, giggling, and twirling!
She gave us all freedom on what the girls should wear (Yes! So I decided to make a more un-traditional flower girl dresses). I just used fabric that I already had in my stash and pieced them all together. Loved how they turned out and now I'm thinking of dyeing them a color so they can wear them again.

Riverfest - Little Rock

Last Thurs. evening we drove down to Little Rock for a show called Riverfest. It was a 3 day show that had long hours. There was alot to do with the kids so they were completely entertained, overall it turned out to be a great show!

Moving Day - for the store

Sat. we spent the entire day painting and moving the shop. Jason made sure to get everything from my old workroom upstairs, garage, and the old store. The backroom is really full and needs to be organized (I'll get to that sometime this week). We had alot of help so it went by fast...we called it a night at midnight.
Today I will be moving my inventory into the store now that the paint is dry.

Everyone I am totally stoked! HH is growing, which is fabulous however, I can not manage it all by myself anymore. So we just hired Tricia to be our new sales/market manager. Tricia and I go way back...to the good 'ol Home Ec. college days. She now resides in Las Vegas and is a perfect fit for HH! So with that being said, expect lots of new things and expansions!

I had the Jr. League show called Candy Cane Lane last weekend. It was from Thurs.-Sat. It was a great show! After it was over we tore down and headed over to the Galleria and tore it down. Then put up in the Galleria the "show" display and transported the showroom fixtures to the new store. Yes, it was confusing but done in a few hours.

The New Home Of Heather Hill Clothing

Last week I signed the lease to a new shop. I had looked at the store last month and the price was good but I needed to think about what I wanted to do next with the business (since my lease is going to be up in Rogers in Dec.). The Mon. after my Holiday Inn show, J and I looked at the store with the realtor. She told us the price had gone done (almost by 1/2 they had quoted last month) and that another man had already signed most of the papers although he was still in a lease and was trying to get out. However on Thurs. night the realtor called and said he couldn't get out of his lease and we were the next in line...did we want it? So Fri. I signed the papers to the storefront downtown.

There is alot of work to be done - mostly painting...but I do have almost every fixture and display.

This is the store front - this year they are rebuilding the 6 lofts above me. Also, a huge restaurant Emelia's is opening 2 doors down from me.

This nook will become a dressing room.

Through that door is a backroom where I will have all my machines and fabric.

Heather Hill at the Springdale Show

It was a whirlwind weekend for us! My dear husband was speaking at a conference in Kentucky... and my daughter's birthday was on Sat... and I had the Holiday Inn show in Springdale. But with alot of help from our friends we made it! And it turned out to be our best show to date! I want to thank everyone who came out and supported Heather Hill :) I absolutely loved catching up with you guys and meeting new fans!

I have had a couple people ask me to do women's aprons so I made up a few for the show. They were a big hit so I will make more and put them up in the showroom.

One of my favorite "Cold Weather" accessories

It's getting chilly out so I wanted to share my favorite cold weather accessory - Removable Fur Cuffs!
When I first started working with fur I actually attached the fur to the sleeve, but that made it hard to wash the outfit. So now I line the fur with stretchable knit that hugs your wrist making it really easy to remove and versatile! These dress up any tee-shirt and kids love the feel.

Thank you all who wrote and gave suggestions on the website. We have made a few changes so that it is more user friendly.

The first is we categorized the clothing into 4 sections - Dresses, Tops, Pants & Skirts & Accessories, this way you can navigate exactly what you are looking for.

The other thing we did was in the database, once you click on the little picture it opens to a larger one so you can see the details. Much Much Better :)

Praire Grove Show

We had a great show on the 4th of July, thanks to all you new and returning customers! Tricia came down and worked the show with me (so my husband got in more surfing time). Tricia and I were Home Ec. majors together and have not talked in 12 years but reconnected on Facebook last month. We met up a few weeks ago and she is now doing alot of the business side of Heather Hill. Here is a pic. of her at the show - Thanks Tricia it was fun!
